The Need for Adoption - Why Do We Need Adoptive Families?

PDF Document

Our Children Are Our Future
Each year more than 1500 children in Santa Clara County were placed in supervised foster care placement. Among those children, many of them who have experienced parental neglect, abuse or exploitation need permanent homes. The Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFCS), County of Santa Clara, finds these children caring adoptive homes.

Our Children Need Understanding and Support

Like the diverse community in which we live, foster children come from families of different ethnic backgrounds. At DFCS, we pride ourselves in matching children with families that support and understand each child’s needs. Our commitment is to ease the trauma of leaving home by providing a stable, loving environment that can become the child’s permanent home if needed.

Our Family Needs a Family Like Yours
We have children of all ages, including many sibling groups. The majority of our children are of color. Our greatest needs for adoptive homes are these:

  • Two or more related children (sibling groups)
  • Boys ages seven through nine
  • Infants and preschoolers with special needs
  • Teenagers
